About the Department

Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT)


The role of DFAT is to advance the interests of Australia and Australians internationally. This involves strengthening Australias security, enhancing Australias prosperity, delivering an effective and high quality overseas aid program and helping Australian travellers and Australians overseas.


The department provides foreign, trade and development policy advice to the Australian Government. DFAT also works with other Australian government agencies to drive coordination of Australias pursuit of global, regional and bilateral interests.

About the Position

About the Position


The research and administrative assistant will help to advance DFATs policy interests with the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and its member states. The position will provide policy, corporate and administrative/personal assistant support to Australias OECD delegation under the direction of the Deputy Head of Mission and/or First Secretary.

The key responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:


Undertake research/analysis to assist with the development of policy advice

Draft briefing/reports/other written material

Act as post focal point on select thematic issues

Represent and advocate Australias positions in meetings

Provide administrative assistant support, including (but not limited to)

  • Supervision of external people visiting the Delegation
  • Arranging and managing official travel for DFAT Delegation officers
  • Assisting delegation staff prepare for meetings; including managing calendars, transport, and registering delegates in the OECD IT System
  • Distributing material within the Delegation, and to Australia and the OECD
  • Managing the filing system (TRIM/EDRMS) for the OECD Delegation
  • Maintaining the stationery supplies

Support organisation of high-level ministerial and official visit programs

Maintain the Delegation publications library and manage publication orders for the Delegation and agencies in Australia

Provide French-English translation as required


Qualifications / Experience requested

  • Understanding of key economic, political, social and cultural issues relevant to DFAT, and in particular the work of the OECD related to this
  • High level administrative and organisation skills, including budget and financial administration skills, and IT skills
  • Excellent writing skills for preparation of reports, briefs and internal/external correspondence.
  • High level research and analysis skills
  • Effective representation, negotiation and liaison skills
  • Good judgement, flexibility, collegiality and responsiveness
  • Capacity to plan and set priorities, working with limited supervision
  • Excellent English and good working French
