POLICY RESEARCH OFFICER 

Locally Engaged Staff: Permanent Position 

(Gross monthly salary: from € 2634.52 to € 3454.36paid in 13 monthly instalments) 

A review of job classifications and salaries is currently underway in the Embassy and the outcome of this review will determine the final salary and relative classification of the position within the Embassy. 

Expressions of interest are invited for the position of Policy Research Officer

This position is based within the Australian Embassy in Paris and reports directly to the Political counsellor. 

The position is available from February 2015 (start date flexible).

This position is based within the Australian Embassy in Paris and reports directly to the Political Counsellor. The duties of the position are: 

About the Position

The position manages Australias bilateral relationships with Morocco and Algeria, in conjunction with the Political Counsellor.  The position provides policy advice, research and analysis on Australias political, economic and security interests in these countries, broader North Africa, and other areas or issues as needs require. 

The key responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to: 

  • Provide policy advice, research and analysis on Australias political, economic and security interests in posts countries of accreditation, broader North Africa, and other areas or issues as needs require

  • Monitor international political developments

  • Develop and maintain contacts with international partners

  • Transact international requests for mutual legal assistance issued by the Attorney-Generals Department with the French Ministry of Justice

  • Prepare diplomatic correspondence and biographies of key political figures

  • Written and oral translation work

  • Coordinate programs and logistical arrangements for overseas visits by Australian officials 

General Requirements and Selection Criteria 

General Requirements:

  1. Candidates must submit a copy of a valid work permit/visa for employment in France.

  2. Applicants should be ready, willing and able to commence employment as soon as possible.

  3. This is a security-designated position. Applicants must be a national of Australia, Canada, New Zealand, United States or United Kingdom. The selected candidate will be required to successfully complete a security assessment to the appropriate level. Persons holding dual French nationality are not eligible for a security clearance for this position. 

    Selection Criteria:

  1. Proven research, analytical and writing skills,

  2. Excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills,

  3. Ability to work quickly and accurately under pressure and to deadlines,

  4. Relevant bachelor degree and professional experience,

  5. Excellent written and spoken communication skills in both English and French are an advantage.  Applicants being considered for the position may be required to undertake oral and written tests in English and French,

  6. Good level skills in IT/Microsoft Office and internet are essential.
